Benefits of Crochet

Ever since I started crocheting, I've come to realize a few benefits.

Crocheting is relaxing. Now, I didn't really feel this way when I started with my beginner crochet projects, but once I got the hang of it, it was very relaxing to just sit in a chair and crochet. Once I really started getting into crochet, I could relax my mind completely to the point where I could actually do other things while crocheting, like watch television... which brings me to my next point...

Crocheting can be a social activity. Crochet seems like a solitary activity, but you can crochet with others and socialize. I started alone but now I occasionally meet up with other beginner crochet hopefuls and we chat while crocheting. I often crochet while on the phone.

Crochet can save you money. This was one of the big reasons why I started crocheting. Crochet is one of those crafts which you can create items that normally could cost a bundle. Ever seen crochet hats on eBay? Slap a name brand and you're pretty much getting ripped off. Doing crochet yourself can save you a bundle and you're participating in every step of your creation.

You're creating tangible, useful objects with crochet. This is the number one reason why I started crocheting. I wanted to make blankets and hats, but I'm thinking about starting my first crochet sweater soon. You can actually use these things, and you get the extra satisfaction of creating it. Even with my beginner crochet projects I felt a satisfaction. It's also great for making stuff for your family or friends. Some people even make a business out of selling their creations!

You don't need a lot to start crocheting. All you need is a crochet hook and some yarn. Even simpler than knitting! :P
